Awash Kolati Primary School
Awash Kolati Primary School, Awash Kolati, Ethiopia
This is the first school project in a new partnership between the Costa Foundation and Imagine1Day. Imagine1Day originally met with the community in 2016 to discuss their education needs including training and identified the need for new school infrastructure. The community were so keen to have a school that in partnership with the local government they collected sufficient funds to construct a new road to enable the building of a new school.
Imagine1Day not only oversee the building of schools but also are an award winning charity when it comes to leadership training of teachers and other stakeholders. The project commenced in February 2018 and was inaugurated in October 2018 by the Costa Foundation.
Having seen the woefully inadequate condition of the previous school buildings which were made of sticks and mud and in a state of collapse it was wonderful to see the new facilities being enjoyed by such a motivated community. Because the school needed to cater for over 600 children 8 fully furnished classrooms were constructed along with a library, sanitation reference books plus the usual school clubs focusing on gender equality, environment, health, sports and public speaking for girls.
Water was provided for this school thanks to a generous donation from Run for Water and we would like to thank them for supporting such a wonderful school project.
