Chinacla Middle School
Chinacla Middle School, Chinacla, Honduras
Chinacla Middle School project was a Costa Foundation enhancement of an existing school in a rural area where many school buildings are in a state of disrepair. Before our investment classrooms were unsafe, toilets were dangerously unhygienic and roofs were leaking. All in all the environment did not attract young people or make them want to embrace education.
Following the Costa Foundation investment 5 classrooms have been refurbished, campus walkways have been rebuilt, a computer room and toilet block have been built and new furniture, learning aids and computers have been supplied.
One of the Costa Foundation trustees joined the celebrations of the school opening on Friday 9th September 2016 and was genuinely impressed with the new facilities and the enthusiasm shown by all of the students.
Maryjury, one of the students at the school said “Before, during the winter we had to move the chairs around to avoid water [in the classrooms], or sometimes with the heavy rain we had to go home and the next day spend time cleaning the classrooms. For me, the most exciting thing is that we don’t have to miss anymore lessons as we can stay in classrooms throughout the winter and rains.”
