DA SAR NURSERY SCHOOL
Da Sar Nursery School, Lac Duong, Vietnam
Lac Duong district has a population of circa 1.4 million of which 34% are ethnic minorities. In Da Sar community the local language is called Malayo-Polynesian which is not spoken at primary school level or above in Vietnam.
By building a 4 classroom nursery school for 150 children aged 3 to 6 the Costa Foundation has given the children of Da Sar an opportunity to learn Vietnamese at a very early age, thus providing them with a stepping stone to a decent formal education. To ensure the success of the school the Vietnamese government has provided qualified teachers all able to speak both Malayo-Polynesian and Vietnamese.
The Costa Foundation visited the school in February 2014 to join in the official celebrations of the opening of the school. This was a true community event with over 100 children and many parents joining in and a wonderful meal cooked and served by the teachers.
