EAH LEO NURSERY SCHOOL
Eah Leo Nursery School, Daklak, Vietnam
This is our ninth school in Vietnam; eight of which are nursery and one primary.
Eah Leo Nursery School was opened in February 2016 by the four winners of the Costa Foundation Ambassadors Award for 2015, which recognises exceptional leadership, enthusiasm and commitment to the charity. The winners are nominated by their peer group within the Costa brand and their prize is to open a Costa Foundation school.
Eah Leo is a district in the north of Dak Lak province in the central highlands of Vietnam over 100 kilometres away from the city centre of Buon Ma Thuot. 38% of the 124,000 population bases its income on farming with coffee, pepper and rubber being the most important crops.
In 2014, two of the Costa Foundation trustees visited this community and discovered that of the 1,000 children in the region 125 were unable to attend nursery school due to lack of facilities. A further 145 children that were attending were using temporary buildings such as village halls and even farmers long houses.
Work began on the new facilities in February 2015 to provide 270 children with 8 classrooms, a multi-functional room, teacher’s room, security room, sick bay, kitchen, fresh water, electricity, playground and perimeter fence.
The celebration was attended by parents, children and members of the local peoples committee and gave the Costa Foundation visitors a real taste of Vietnamese traditions through song and dance. This was a wonderful day in a wonderful school enjoyed by all.
