Eatam Nursery School
Eatam Nursery School, Daklak Province, Vietnam
Situated in the rural ethnic coffee-growing district of Krong Nang in Daklak Province, Eatam historically struggled to provide adequate nursery school space for the 607 children aged 3-6 that so desperately needed facilities. This situation led to children having to use borrowed village halls, farmer’s long-houses, and even borrowed classrooms from local primary schools.
The Costa Foundation invested in a brand new nursery school with 8 classrooms, a multi-functional room, teachers admin block, sick bay, kitchen, security room, playground, perimeter fence, fresh water, electricity and sanitation.
The school opened in August 2016 and was officially opened by the Costa Foundation manager in November 2016. The celebration not only gave the children the opportunity to showcase their dancing skills but also gave the teachers the chance to show the children singing and performing in the Vietnamese language. This is the primary reason that the Costa Foundation builds nursery schools in Vietnam, as without the ability to speak the national language these ethnic minority children will not be able to attend formal primary school education.
