Haru High School

Haru High School, Yirgachefe, Ethiopia

Yirgachefe is one of the 133 districts in the Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples Region of Ethiopia with 89% of the districts people living in rural areas. Haru is a typical coffee-growing community within Yirgachefe mainly made up of members of the Gede’o Tribe. Coffee-growing is the primary source of income for this community with the secondary crop of inset, corn and beans.

The Costa Foundation funded a new high school in 2016 which opened with 8 fully furnished classrooms, a library, sanitation and water plus the usual school clubs focusing on gender equality, environment, health, sports and public speaking for girls.

The school was officially inaugurated by the Costa Foundation in October 2018, a two year gap caused by the civil unrest within the country.

Thanks to you we've built over 600 classrooms in 10 countries giving
84 coffee growing communities access to education
