HOA HONG NURSERY SCHOOL
Hoa Hong Nursery School, Cu Kuin, Vietnam
Cu Kuin is a district of Dak Lak province in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, with a population of circa 110,000 people of the Ede ethnic tribe. Hoa Hong Nursery School opened its doors to 180 children aged 3 to 6 in November 2013.
The Costa Foundation visited the school and joined in the celebrations of its official inauguration in February 2014 and there was plenty of singing and dancing from children and teachers alike.
Prior to the building of the school the children were forced to use village halls and borrow classroom space from nearby primary schools. The conditions were not conducive to learning and the teachers were not qualified to teach the children Vietnamese.
The new school boasts 6 classrooms, kitchen, admin block and playground and all of the teachers speak Vietnamese and are teaching the children their national language.
A fantastic new development is that the school has been awarded a distinction for the quality of its teaching by the local education authority a mere 4 weeks after the school opened; a remarkable achievement.
