Jerusalen de Minaro Primary School
Jerusalen de Minaro Primary School, Pangoa, Peru
This primary school is located within the native community of Jerusalen de Minaro, Pangoa District, Junin Region of the Central Highlands of Peru. This is a small community with approximately 150 families living there. However the school is able to draw children from a number of neighbouring villages. This community had been completely abandoned for a number of years and the education of its children therefore suffered the most as a result.
The Costa Foundation has funded 8 classrooms, kitchen and canteen, sanitation, teachers’ room, playground, water supply and electricity.
This is an award-winning design led by Marta from the Semillas Foundation who picked up the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture for 2018 for this school.
Opened by one of the Costa Foundation Trustees in July 2018 it was wonderful to see so many children, parents and teachers enjoying their new facilities.
