KRONG ANA NURSERY SCHOOL
Krong Ana Nursery School, Daklak, Vietnam
Our sixth nursery school in Vietnam, Krong Ana is a district on the southeast of Daklak province in the central highlands of Vietnam. Most of the districts people live by farming coffee, pepper, rubber and corn. The farmers in this area are particularly poor and with the support of our delivery partner Dakman Limited they have worked hard to increase their yield and move their community out of poverty.
Before building the nursery school children aged 3-6 had to use traditional long houses and community centres for nursery education. The nearest official nursery school was 17km away and 213 children whose parents could not afford transport costs were excluded from education.
The new school, comprising of 6 new classrooms, a kitchen and an admin block, opened in March 2015 and was officially launched by the 3 winners of Costa's Fundraiser of the Year Award for 2014. Traditional Vietnamese dances were performed by the children, the teachers and parents in a truly community-focused event which was enjoyed by all.
