Los Angeles de Eden Nursery School
Los Angeles de Eden Nursery School, Pangoa, Peru
The Costa Foundation was made aware of the poor condition of the nursery school in Los Angeles de Eden during March 2014. Leaking roof, unstable walls, broken furniture, insufficient books and equipment, no kitchen or dining area. There were 26 children using these poor facilities and many other children who travelled long distances to better standard nursery schools, something that their parents could ill afford.
The new facilities opened in October 2014 and includes a fully furnished classroom, a play and rest room, a kitchen and a dining area. One of the Costa Foundation Trustees visited the school in July 2015 and was delighted to be able to observe the children learning through song and art and joined in with the community as they celebrated their new school.
Los Angeles de Eden now has a high quality nursery school, a good quality government funded primary school but lacks a decent high school. The good news is that the Costa Foundation has signed off the funds to build a brand new 5 classroom high school complete with computer room, multi-functional room, community room, and sports area. Work will commence in early 2016 with a plan to open for the new school term in 2017.
