Today marks the 1 year anniversary of a very sad day in the history of the Costa Foundation. This is the day Mesay Kassaye, our inspirational Country Director for Ethiopia sadly passed away.
Mesay joined the Foundation family in 2008 and was responsible for the creation of all 17 of our schools in Ethiopia right up until he passed away on October 5th 2017.
It is really difficult to put into words how inspirational Mesay was, to the communities he worked in, the governments he negotiated with, the tribal elders he broke bread with and the parents, teachers and children he helped receive the gift of education for 9 years.
Mesay visited the UK on 2 occasions spreading his enthusiasm and love of the Costa Foundation to Trustees, Area Champions, Costa Team Members and indeed everyone he met during his stay.
His legacy continues under the management of Imagine 1 Day and we will always be grateful for the man that he was and the work that he carried out for so many marginalised children.
“Our death is not an end if we can live on in our children and the younger generation. For they are us, our bodies are only wilted leaves on the tree of life.” Mesay Kassaye 1964 - 2017
