Pie de la Cuesta School
Pie de la Cuesta School, Ocotepeque, Honduras
Situated in a remote rural and mountainous area within the department of Ocotepeque, the Costa Foundation has funded 2 new classrooms which have been added to an existing and over-subscribed school. Previously middle school children at Pie de la Cuesta had no classroom facilities and had to share with primary school children. The conditions were not only cramped but the walls were unsafe, roofs were leaking and there were no doors or electricity.
By providing 2 large and modern classrooms the number of children at this school has now grown and it is good to see the number of girls attending. Of the two classrooms we have built, one is for Kindergarten children aged 4-6 years, and the other is for Secondary School children aged 12-15 years.
The celebration of the school opening included an innovative fashion show where the children proudly modeled clothing that they had made from locally sourced recycled materials. This was a genuine community affair with lots of communal dancing and it was obvious that the children and the parents were delighted with their new school facilities.
