Kampinda High School
This was the first high school in Zambia to be fee-free for day boarders. This exciting step change for education in Zambia is something that the Costa Foundation is very proud to be involved in.
PEAS started operations in Zambia in 2011 by opening two secondary schools in the Copperbelt. Due to a beneficial public private partnership deal (PPP) with the Zambian government, which funded 90% of the cost per student, the Costa Foundation were keen to invest in coffee-growing communities in Zambia. This meant that the Northern Province, where coffee is grown, became the new area for PEAS Zambia’s focus.
There are two coffee farms in the Northern Province. One of these is Kasama Coffee, where PEAS Zambia’s third school has been built. Funded by a number of donors (Costa Foundation, SITA Foundation, Coins Foundation and OLAM Coffee) the school opened in February 2018 and was at capacity almost from day one.
The school is to a very high specification (as required by the government) and includes a four classroom block, three laboratories, an ICT room, kitchen, sick bay, staff room, administration room, sanitation, fresh water, solar power, text books and learning aids.
Officially inaugurated by all of the donors, plus many local dignitaries and government representatives, the school is a genuine beacon within the community. In fact, so successful is the school, that the Costa Foundation trustees are already looking to expand it.
